Well it looks like I have one reader. On a totally unrelated note did I mention how much I liked Ireland. Boy is Ireland a great country, don't you think? Did you know Ireland is the third largest island in Europe? I am assuming that Great Britain is bigger, and I just looked it up and Iceland is bigger. Now if any of my readers can name the 4th largest island in Europe (without researching it) I will deliver a terrific prize. This is on the honor system so enter your answers in the comments section and prizes will be awarded next week. I am perusing the wikipedia page on Ireland and it says that "Despite the constitutional division of Ireland, the island does operate as a single entity in a number of areas. With a few notable exceptions, the island operates as a single unit in all major religious denominations and in many economic fields despite using two different currencies. There are also significant all-island dimensions to sports such as rugby and hockey." So maybe one of many Irish readers can explain that to me. Are they playing regular old American/Canadian hockey over there? Also there are only 26 land mammal species native to Ireland (including the badger). That seems rather low. You have badgers, people, Leprechauns, Pine Martins, Red Fox, Irish Hare, Red Deer and I guess about 19 more. Also no snakes (I am sure Indiana Jones would like that!) and only one kind of reptile. More on Ireland in later posts.
I listened to Sara Melson yesterday. Somehow this album was listed in rhapsody as garage rock, but it sure as heck was not that. When I looked her up on the in the Internet and they called her AAA/Alt-Country. I am not sure what this AAA is but I can hear the alt-country. The album wasn't too bad though. Kind of a nice break from all the hip-hop and garage I have been listening to. 7.5 out of 10.3.

Mike if you are trying to bait me into commenting on your little 'blog' it's working! Yes, Ireland is sadly lacking in many of the mammals loved in North America such as the Raccoon and the Skunk. One rule of thumb is that if an animal has an American Indian name, it is not here. No bears either! But there were bears when we were still part of the European landmass. I believe that was a long time ago though. There are reports of large cats (panthers or whatnot) but I doubt them. These are supposed to be animals that were kept as pets and then released I guess. A lot of people in Enguland believe there are wild big cats, but I think its boshit. Pine Martins are awesome. I believe they are similarly vicious as badgers. Also, the wife and myself saw a red deer once I guess, well, we saw some deer run right out in front of our auto. We nearly ran into it with the bonnet of the auto! I don't know what reptile we have here. We have wood lice, are they a reptile? Is rhapsody just like last.fm? I am currently a last.fm user and it's pretty good. When you say you are listening to a lot of garage, do you mean 'garage rock' or that other kind of garage? Is that other kind of garage some sort of Brit dance music or wot? Re snakes in Ireland I am shocked that nobody has introduced them yet. I'm tempted just out of sheer mischief. St. Patrick is reputed to have driven the snakes out. Not bloody likely mate! I'm trying to think of the answer to your quiz. Sicily? Crete? I am geographically incompetent, it's a fact. But since I'm the only guesser I win by default. Joke's on me though cos the prize is a free trip to Ireland.
Oh yeah, you wanted some questions about our fair isle answered. Well. I guess the deal is that the religious stuff was set up before the revolution. And the sports, I dunno. I guess when Ireland competes as a nation there are players from the North and the South on the national team? I don't really know. The hockey, jeez, who heard of hockey here? I think they play a little in the North. Around here hockey means girls with sticks and bloody shins. And skirts. On the grass.
Sorry no prize. West Spitsbergen is the fourth largest island in Europe. I was not aware that cars wore bonnets over there in ireland. Perhaps I will cover that in my next "inside ireland" post. And I did a little research on the hockey business and you are right, girls in skirts.
Sorry I don't know you but found your blog on a Sara Melson Google search. I found the album last weekend and think it's terrific. If you're listening to loads of music, try Amie St to buy what you really want to keep - music starts off free and gets more expensive as it gets more popular - and Sellaband to search out new talent (and maybe invest in it).
